March 2024

This Lenten season, please join Lutheran Church of Our Saviour with our ministry and mission project to help people in parts of the world that need to have access to basic sanitation and hygiene essentials which will in turn aid in the reduction of sickness and disease in their communities.

Hygiene Kit - $25

A hygiene kit provides sanitation supplies and education for households, schools, clinics, and other public spaces.

Latrine - $150

A new latrine, along with training to help with maintenance and hygiene, leads to a much healthier community.

Let your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers know about our ministry and mission project and ask if they would like to participate.

Our goal is to provide two hygiene kits and one latrine but if we can deliver more to a community in need that would be incredible.

Worry Monsters for Uvalde Students

On May 24th, 2022, the world changed for the students of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas when a gunman entered their school and opened fire killing 19 students and 2 teachers. Seventeen others were wounded.  As a response to this tragedy, the PLUM Churches joined together to raise funds to purchase Worry Monsters.  The Worry Monsters are stuffed animals that have mouths that zipper open and closed.  The students can write their worries on a piece of paper and “feed” them to the monsters.  School counselors make regular use of these monsters during their sessions with the students to help them deal with anxiety. As a group of 10 churches, PLUM was able to raise enough funds to purchase 120 Worry Monsters!  Thirteen monsters were delivered to the surviving students who were injured in the shooting.  The remaining monsters have been sent to the superintendent’s assistant, Ms. Mikka Sanchez to pass along to the Uvalde School counselors.  The school counselors will pass them out to the students with the most need. I wanted to express my sincere thanks to all the members of the Plum churches for joining in with the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour in this very successful mission project. Our initial goal was to raise enough funds to sponsor 30 monsters.  When all the other PLUM churches joined in, we set the goal at 50 monsters.  Through the grace of God and the kindness and compassion of the PLUM members, we were able to significantly surpass our goal helping so many more students work though this tragedy.

On Sunday, February 18, 2018, we voted to join the Pittsburgh Lutheran United Ministries (PLUM) as a permanent member.  Our vote will be submitted to the PLUM Board at the April 22 PLUM Board meeting.  PLUM will provide our pastoral leadership, but we still need to perform the church 'office' functions, as well as maintain our church building and grounds.  Contact the church office, if you need any pastoral care (wedding, funeral, hospital visits, etc.)
