Our Newest Mission Event:

Friday, March 9, 16 & 23, 2018

25th Annual FREE Fish Fry Dinner

Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church (3104 W. Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh 15216, Dormont) again served its annual Fish Fry Dinners during Lent. The dinners were held on March 9, March 16 and March 23 in the church social hall.

This year, we served 1,105 meals!

There was no charge for these dinners, but donations were accepted.  All proceeds were given to people or organizations in the community who were in need or who assist the needy.

Although these Fish Fry dinners originated as a fund-raising event, the purpose is no longer to raise money for the church.  Instead, any profits from the dinners are donated back to the local community (sometimes to families in need, sometimes to food banks, etc.).

Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church (Dormont) held its 33rd annual FREE Thanksgiving Dinner for the community on Thanksgiving Day 2015.

For over the past quarter century, the congregation of Bethany, along with support from other local churches, has been blessed to be able to provide a FREE Thanksgiving Dinner as a community service on Thanksgiving Day.  Dinners were served from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

This year, we served 880 meals! (489 meals were eat-in; 391 were delivered)

Some who attend are homeless, some are struggling financially and some have no close family with whom to spend the holiday.  For folks who were shut-in or otherwise homebound, delivery service was provided, free of charge.   Everyone is welcomed and each person is treated to good fellowship and a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed and sweet potatoes, vegetable, rolls, pumpkin and fruit pies, coffee and tea.

Bethany accepts donations of cooked turkeys and turkey breasts (in their juices), stuffed or unstuffed, stuffing mix, mashed potatoes, candied yams/sweet potatoes and pies.  A small army of volunteers help to set-up, cook, serve and deliver meals...and of course, clean-up.
