“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the world.  For God, whom I serve with my spirit by announcing the gospel of his Son, is my witness that without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers.”  Romans 1:8-9

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Just a year ago, I was a new intern, preparing to lead the congregation at Hope through our Lenten journey.  I was happy to be retired from my banking career and excited to start practicing the things that I had learned in Seminary.  During my internship, I learned that I truly love being in ministry.  There were many times that I dreamed about what my Ordination would be like.  There would be music – lots of it, I would be surrounded by family and friends, and I would feel God’s presence in a way that I had not yet experienced.

I was not disappointed.  My Ordination was so much more than I had imagined it would be.  The music was beautiful.  The church looked wonderful.  The service was so meaningful.  None of that could have happened without all of you.  Every one of the PLUM church congregations contributed to that day, in some way.

Thank you.

Thank you to our Pastoral team, who told me what to expect, who worked tirelessly to gather the things that we would need for the day, and who have supported and encouraged me.  Thank you, to all of the musicians; you are a gift to our congregations.  Thank you for sharing your gifts.  Thank you to all who took part in the service.  Thank you to those who prepared and printed the beautiful bulletin.  Thank you, Katie, for making my beautiful stole and chasuble.  Thank you, all who baked, cooked, set up, cleaned up and served the meal.  Our church cooks are the best.  I thank God for all of you.

Here I am, at the beginning of another Lenten season - this time as your Pastor. I encourage you to take advantage of the Lenten studies and special services.  Spend some time in self-examination.  How can you grow in your relationship with God and with your neighbor?  I witnessed your love of God and your neighbor in the ways that you participated in my Ordination.  How can you extend that love into our world?

May God Bless You in Your Lenten Journey,

Pastor Sue
