Psalm 100

The Message

1-2 On your feet now—applaud God!
    Bring a gift of laughter,
    sing yourselves into his presence.

Know this: God is God, and God, God.
He made us; we didn’t make him.
We’re his people, his well-tended sheep.

Enter with the password: “Thank you!”
Make yourselves at home, talking praise.
    Thank him. Worship him.

For God is sheer beauty,
    all-generous in love,
    loyal always and ever.

Thank him! Worship him!  We have so very much to be thankful for as we enter these summer months ahead. It’s the time of graduations, summer weddings, family picnics, vacations and lazy days.  The days are longer, the temperatures are warmer and nature is exploding around us in glorious colors.  God has brought us through a long, gray winter of physical distancing and modified worship, through a cautious springtime of returning to in-person worship and the choice to vaccinate or not, and now to the birth of summer filled with anticipation, hope, and cautious relaxing of restrictions.  We have much to celebrate.

During the month of May, we held a four-week Bible study on the Book of Proverbs.  We read about and discussed God’s Standard versus Gold Standard.  We were blessed to discover new things about this book of sayings in the Bible.  Along with our regular Bible study, Pastor Paul started a Thursday morning discussion of the texts of the week.  If you would like to participate in this discussion, see the PLUM website for details and a link to connect to the session.

We are excited to say that a Call Committee has been formed!  Each congregation is represented on this committee, which met with Pastor Asplin, Assistant to the Bishop of the Southwest PA Synod of the ELCA.  Pastor Asplin explained in great detail what steps we need to take in the call process, and the committee has already begun to take these steps.  We ask for your prayers for our committee, for our pastors, for Pastor Asplin who is guiding us, and for the candidate, known only to God, who is being prepared to become a part of the PLUM pastoral team.

The congregations of PLUM, and the pastoral team, will participate in Synod Assembly on June 10, 11 and 12.  This is an important function of our congregations.  There are opportunities for continued growth through workshops and sessions, worship with sisters and brothers from all around the Southwest PA synod, and the opportunity to vote for those who will serve our synod next year, any special memorials or proposals, and our synod’s budget for 2022.  Two of our own, Pastors Brenda and Sue, are seeking positions on the Synod Council and as representatives at Church-wide Assembly, which takes place next year.

Your pastors are joyously scheduling Confirmations, Baptisms, First Holy Communion, and weddings.  We would like to recognize all those fathers, brothers, grandfathers, uncles, teachers, mentors, coaches and friends who have participated in the life of a child by sharing God’s love, their love, and their gifts and talents.  Happy Father’s Day to you all!

Giving Thanks for Summer

Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all around me
and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer.
Teach me how I can pray
no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence
and light my path with Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me
a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.
