Online Bible Study

The Lenten Study will be at our usual study times: Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.

All are welcome.

This week, we will be studying Luke 1:5-38.

During the Season of Lent, we will be studying the book entitled Blessed Is She: Living Lent with Mary", written by Tim Perry.  You can order the book from Amazon (Used copies available at considerably reduced prices.) or at any store, if you desire.

Everyone is happy to see Mary in the crčche at Christmastime, but by the time the Magi head back East after the Feast of the Epiphany, Christians of many traditions are often ready to place Mary to the side, too.

But in "Blessed Is She", Timothy Perry presents a Mary who belongs in Lent as much as in Advent, who shows what it means to die and live with the crucified and risen Jesus.  Drawing primarily from the Gospel of Luke, this lovely book of devotions sketches a Lenten Mary who teaches us about being disciples. The result is a complex, inviting, strong character a disciple to be emulated by all Christians, especially during this holy season.

What is Taizé?

Taizé is the style of Christian worship practiced by the ecumenical Taizé community in France, characterized by the repetitive singing of simple harmonized tunes, interspersed with readings, prayers, and periods of silence.

One of our congregations, Hope Lutheran Church in Forest Hills, has a long tradition of offering this meaningful, contemplative type of worship service monthly.  Also, in the past, PLUM has had a Taizé joint worship service.

Whether you are someone who is new to Taizé, or someone who already appreciates this beautiful way to connect to God, community and self, please consider joining us. All are welcome!

Overview

Zoom is an internet-based video conferencing tool with a local, computer program (for your computer) and a mobile app (for your cell phone) that allows users to meet online - with or without video.

Prerequisites

  • For a LAND-LINE TELEPHONE or an older FLIP-PHONE (NOT a "smart" cell phone):  Your phone must be DIGITAL and have push-buttons.  Old rotary style phones will NOT work.

  • For a COMPUTER:  If you do NOT have the Zoom program on your computer, then click this link to Download and install Zoom desktop program (Windows or Mac).  After the file has downloaded, go to where the file was downloaded to (probably in your “Downloads” folder) and click on the “ZoomInstaller.exe” file to start the installation process.

  • For a "SMART" CELL PHONE:  If you do NOT have the Zoom app installed on your cell phone, then go to Google Play (for Android phones) or to the Apple Store (for Apple phones).  Search for the "Zoom" app.  Download and install the file.
